Hyundai Motors Sets A Landmark In Its History
The day of September 30, 2024 marked a landmark in the history of Korean carmaker Hyundai Motors. According to reports, the carmaker rolled out its 10 crore vehicle from Ulsan plant in South Korea. The South Korean carmaker started its journey 57 years back in 1968 and started operations at the Ulsan plant. This plant is now the company’s largest manufacturing hub across the world. Today, the carmaker ranks as the second-largest carmaker in India.

Going back to its history, the first vehilcle manufactured by the company from this plant was the Cortina, developed in collaboration with US carmaker Ford Motors. In 1975, the carmaker developed its first independent carmaker under its flagship. The car was named as the Pony. At present, the company sales its products across the global markets including US, Europe, Asia and Australia.
Global Best-Sellers: Among the various products sold by the company worldwide, the Tucson SUV is stands as the best-selling vehicle by the company. During the year 2023, more than two lakh units of the Tucson were sold in the global market. The other best selling models from the company are Elantra, Santa Fe, electronic SUV Kona, and the Palisade. The Tucson is also one of the best selling SUVs in India, HMIL discontinued the Kona electric SUV in India, to make the way for other electric vehicle in the country.
India as the Key-Player in Hyundai's Growth: India has emerged as the third-largest market of the company, after US and Europe. The company initiated its operations in India in 1996 by introducing its popular hatchback the Santro. In 2023, the Hyundai Motors India Limited, HMIL achieved a milestone of selling more than six lakh units in the country.
In India, company’s top-selling model is the Creta SUV. According to reports, the company launched the upgraded Creta in the Indian car market in January this year, and its reported to sold out more than 1 lakh units till date. Other best selling vehicles include the Venue, Exter, and Alcazar SUVs, as well as the i20 and i10 hatchbacks, Aura sedan, and Verna sedan. In the electric segment, the Ioniq 5 remains the sole offering from Hyundai in India. The company also sells its N Line performance models, such as the i20, Venue, and Creta, in the Indian market.
