Hyundai, Shell India Collaborate For EV Charging Stations
Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) has announced a partnership with Shell India to bolster the charging infrastructure for Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) in India. This collaboration will see the installation of 60 kW DC Fast Chargers across 36 of HMIL's EV dealerships nationwide.
In addition, Shell India aims to explore the feasibility of installing more powerful DC 120 kW fast chargers at the dealerships instead of the 60 kW chargers. The Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed by the two companies at HMIL's headquarters in Gurugram, Haryana, in the presence of senior management.
HMIL, which currently operates a network of 72 EV dealerships in 45 cities, has made significant investments in developing its charger management system (CMS). This open platform allows EV owners, regardless of the brand, to seamlessly access charging services. As part of the collaboration, Shell will install its chargers alongside HMILs, offering features such as location services, navigation, and digital payments through the CMS, ensuring convenient access to EV charging facilities.
Hyundai currently offers two EV models in India, namely the Kona and Ioniq 5. The Kona is expected to receive a facelift later this year, while the Ioniq 5 made its debut at the Auto Expo in January with an aggressive starting price of Rs 44.95 lakh. Tarun Garg, Director - Sales, Marketing & Services, Hyundai India, emphasized the company's commitment not only to introducing EVs in the Indian market but also to developing a comprehensive ecosystem that supports the transition to greener mobility.
