IONIQ 5 Electric Car In The Pipeline Of Hyundai For 2022
Hyundai Motor India Ltd, the Indian alliance of Korean carmaker Hyundai, has announced the launch of its iconic electric car IONIQ 5 in India this year. The launch of IONIQ 5 in the Indian car market will also mark the beginning of the company's Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). The same platform is used in developing the Kia EV6, by the company’s sister alliance. The Korean company will launch six electric cars based on the EGMP platform in India by 2028.
With IONIQ5 the company will launch its second EV in the Indian car market, after the Kona which is the first compact SUV launched in the country. Hyundai has announced the launch of the IONIQ 5 after the announcement by Kia for launching the EV 6 electric car soon in India. The sister alliance of Hyundai will commence the bookings of EV6 from May 6, 2022.

Speaking of the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), it is a versatile system that is exclusively for the electric vehicles of next-generation with exclusive interior and exterior design. The interior of these vehicles is developed from eco-friendly materials, whereas the exterior carries dynamic looks.
An interesting fact of this platform is that it can be converted into different body types including a modularized battery system. It receives a flat floor and flexible and comfortable seating layout followed by an interior space offering a sliding console and sliding 2nd-row seats.
Addressing the launch of IONIQ 5 in India, Unsoo Kim, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India Limited, said, “As a customer-centric brand, Hyundai is focussing very strongly on electric mobility across its businesses and product range for a progressive and sustainable future. Hyundai is proud to receive the World Car of the Year 2022 for the IONIQ 5 as this award is a true testament to our vision and efforts in driving the adoption of BEVs globally. Hyundai Motor India has already committed to the expansion of our BEV line-up to 6 models by 2028 and today, with great pride we are announcing the introduction of IONIQ 5 in CY 22 in India”.
Vehicles based on E-GMP have a large battery capacity, enhanced handling, and can touch the top speed of 260 kmph.
