Karnataka Tops The List of Electric Vehicles Registration

In the last few years, there has been a dynamic increase in the use of electric vehicles across the country. To encourage the use of electric vehicles among people, various policies and strategies are announced by the central government from time to time. According to recent data presented by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways in Parliament, out of every five electric wheelers registered in the country, one electric four-wheeler is registered by government departments. A statement regarding this was made by the Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari in the Lok Sabha. It is reported that 5,384 electric cars are used by government departments across the country as of February 4, 2022.

Before this, he informed the Lok Sabha that during the year 26,335 electric vehicles were registered in the entire country. With 7,212 vehicles, Karnataka recorded the highest electric vehicle registration in the country. After it, Ladakh with 5,484 was placed at the second position, whereas Delhi which emphasised more on the use of electric vehicles recorded the registration of only 3,051 electric four-wheelers.

It would be interesting to know that the registration of eco-friendly vehicles based on CNG, ethanol, methanol, petrol and diesel hybrid trebled in 2021. The data reveals that almost 9.7 lakh such vehicles were registered throughout the country. Out of these 9.7 vehicles, Uttar Pradesh recorded the registration of 2.8 lakh vehicles, whereas Delhi recorded the registration of 1.3 lakh eco-friendly vehicles.

With India aiming to become a 100% EV nation by 2030, this growth is not according to expectations. The same thoughts were expressed by the Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs & Food & Public Distribution and Textiles, Government of India, Piyush Goyal. In his words, “India aims to become 100% e-vehicle nation by 2030”.

To encourage the use of electric vehicles, the government of Delhi and Jharkhand stated are offering impressive incentives to their buyers. The only reason behind the non-adaptation of electric vehicles is the cost, the operation and maintenance cost of these vehicles is comparatively low than their actual cost.
