Kia Motors To Introduce New Mild-Hybrid Technology In 2018
Going through the increasing concern towards green technology Korean car maker Kia Motors is going to introduce the new EcoDynamics+mild-hybrid technology across its portfolio from the middle of this year. Christened as 48V powertrain technology results in minimizing CO2 emissions by generating power with 48V battery and extends combustion engine ‘off time’ by making use of new Mild-Hybrid Starter-Genertor Unit. According to the sources of Korean car maker offers an irrestible cost to performance ratio as compared to vehicles empowered with full hybrid motor. It is reported that first vehicle to be empowered with this new technology would be Kia Sportage that is expected to make its debut in the next half of this year.
The powertrain will deliver imporoved fuel efficiency through internal combustion engines on the road by making use of electric power. While driving the vehicle in the ‘motor’ mode the battery discharges during acceleration and delivers extra torque to the engine for generating little power while driving the vehicle under high speed or minimizing the load on engine while driving the vehicle under low speed.

The whole system is controlled through an advanced Electronic control unit that determines the perfect use of the energy available and makes it use accordingly by considering the amount of charge that remains in the battery of car. The power of battery can be used for providing functionality of newly introduced moving stop & start button. If the battery is charged properly the combustion engine turns off automatically during in-gear deceleration and braking.
As an impact of DC/DC converter of the 48V battery the new battery could be connected with the on-board power supply of the vehicle resulting in significant reduction in the size of 12V battery that is required for supply power to ancillary electronics of the car.
