The successful launch of compact SUV Nexon by the domestic carmaker Tata Motors opened the way for the carmakers like Hyundai and MG Motors to launch their EV Kona and ZS EV respectively in the Indian car market successfully. Inspired by the success enjoyed by these vehicles the carmakers like Maruti Suzuki India Limited, Renault also to join the fleet of electric vehicle manufacturers. According to media reports the American carmaker, Tesla has also confirmed to launch three of sedans in the Indian car market during this year.

 

 

Unfortunately, due to the impacts of global pandemic COVID-19. Going through this reason the electric vehicles which were expected to make their debut till 2023 will be delayed for three to six months. According to the manufacturers of these vehicles the disruption in the supply of raw materials, lack of required research and development, changes in the prices of commodities, etc, due to the pandemic are responsible for delaying their plans for launching the electric vehicles.

 

The major electric vehicles which were supposed to make their debut recently in the Indian car market were Maruti Suzuki WagonR EV and the Tata Altroz EV and mini-SUV Tata HBX. According to the sources of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, it is not going to launch the EV WagonR in India due to “techno-commercial viability issues”. The sources further added that most of the components which will be used for manufacturing the vehicle will be imported, and this will hike its cost. 

 

Moving ahead, the domestic carmaker Tata Motors is also going to postpone the launch of Altroz EV and the mini SUV HBX due to some reasons. Both the vehicles were reported to be launched this year. Under the hood, both of them will be empowered with Ziptron electric powertrain which is also offered in the Nexon EV. However, the battery and the power generation efficiency would be different for both the vehicles.
