Low Priced 2wd Tata Aria to be launched this year
When Tata Motors launched its first crossover, the Tata Aria, they expected it to take the Indian auto market by storm. But the thing has not been quite the same. Tata Aria has not tasted the same success as its other Tata siblings have. The reason behind it is the high price tag stuck with Tata Aria.
Tata Motors in an urge to boost sales of the Tata Aria have decided to launch a toned down low price version of it. The new version will be a 2WD instead of the current 4WD Tata Aria and is expected to be priced between 10 Lakhs to 11 Lakhs. The current 4WD model of Tata Aria comes with a price of 13.5 Lakhs to 16 Lakhs.

Tata Motors revealed that they plan to launch the two wheel drive version of Tata Aria in the current fiscal only. According to SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufactures), Tata Motors sold 343 units of Tata Aria and Tata Xenon combined in April and May 2011. A top Tata Motors dealer said that the current four wheel drive model of Tata Aria is highly expensive and that the launch of a two wheel drive version at a lower price will help in boosting the sales. Ammar Master, of JD Power Asia Pacific said that the high price of Tata Aria is hindering its growth. He further added that the low priced two wheel drive version will open up more customers for Tata Aria.
