Mahindra Scorpio and Xylo to get costlier from October 2016

According to reports received from Indian car market domestic car maker Mahindra and Mahindra is going to hike the prices of few of its commercial vehicles followed by passenger car portfolio. The hike in prices will be up-to 1% of the existing cost of proposed vehicles and will be effective from October 1, 2016. Commenting on the company’s decision of hiking prices sources of Mahindra said that hike in prices is being done because of rise in the cost of raw materials for manufacturing M&M vehicles.

It is speculated that hike in prices will mainly be imposed on its best selling SUV Scorpio and Xylo MPV. It would be interested to know that almost just two months ago in July native car maker had launched generation next Mahindra Scorpio in Indian car market which is empowered with 2.2 litre mHawk engine with hybrid motor and offered with price tag of Rs. 9.74 lakh (ex-showroom price, Navi Mumbai). The prices of entire portfolio from Mahindra and Mahindra in Indian car market ranges from Rs. 4.5 lakh to Rs. 25 lakh

According to sources of company after Mahindra Scorpio is also anticipating to bring XUV 500 also enriched with same 2.2 litre mHawk engine with mild-hybrid technology. It is believed that this move from company is being in accordance to make its vehicles compatible for driving in Delhi and NCR region, as like other manufacturers M&M also had to undergo huge loss due to restriction by Supreme Court on transportation of vehicles with more than 2000 cc displacement capacity. Interestingly the vehicles enriched with mild hybrid technology not only offer improved fuel efficiency but also do not pollute the environment.

Apart from Mahindra and Mahindra Maruti Suzuki India Limited and Hyundai Motors India Limited have also hiked the prices of their portfolio in Indian car market due to increase in input cost.
