Mahindra Scorpio N to Launch in Australia Without AEB Feature
Recently the government of Australia has made use of the Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) feature in vehicles sold in the country post-March 1, 2023. Interestingly, the Indian carmaker Mahindra & Mahindra has found a flaw in this mandate and will not comply with it in its upcoming offering, the Scorpio N SUV. It would be worth mentioning that the Australian government won’t be able to restrict the Indian automaker from doing this.

AEB is a crucial safety feature that automatically applies brakes when a potential hazard is detected in front of the vehicle. The Scorpio N is not offered with AEB in India either, and Mahindra cites the high cost of compliance as the reason for not including the feature in the vehicle. However, from March 2025, Mahindra will have to offer AEB in the SUV if it wants to continue selling it in Australia, as the requirement becomes mandatory for all vehicles.
Mahindra has not yet revealed the powertrain options for the Scorpio N in Australia, but both the 200PS turbo-petrol and the 175PS, 2.2-litre diesel, with both two-wheel and four-wheel drive options, are expected to be available. Transmission options will include both manual and automatic gearboxes.
In India, the Scorpio N is sold alongside the Scorpio Classic, and it is a larger and more rugged alternative to popular SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, and MG Hector.
