Mahindra Uses 100% Renewable Energy To Develop XUV400 EV

Indian automaker Mahindra has announced that its first electric SUV, the XUV400, has been produced with 100% renewable energy and in a water-positive setup at its facility in Nashik, Maharashtra. This achievement will help the company save more than 20,000 kilolitres of water and produce cars that can provide water for 100 homes in a year. Moreover, the energy saved in producing the XUV400 vehicles can light more than 1000 homes for a year and is equivalent to planting one lakh trees.

Mahindra has taken a holistic approach to the manufacturing of the XUV400 by producing a planet-friendly vehicle in the most sustainable manner possible, according to Veejay Nakra, President of, the Automotive Division, Mahindra. The XUV400 is the fastest-booked electric SUV in India, with 15,000 bookings received in just three days. The automaker plans for 20% to 30% of its passenger vehicles to be electric by 2027.
 
Mahindra claims to have entirely water-positive production facilities, and it is the first Indian automobile components company to be included in the world index of Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for the second consecutive year in 2022. It is also the first Indian organisation to sign EP100 and adopt a carbon pricing model. In addition, the company's North American facility in Houston has recently switched to 100% renewable energy. Mahindra is also featured in CDP 'A' list for climate and water for the years 2020 and 2021.
 
In a separate development, the company has announced discounts worth more than ₹50,000 on select models, including Thar, XUV300, Bolero, Bolero Neo SUVs and Marazzo MPV, for April.
