Mahindra & Mahindra Delivers First Fleet of Electric Cars to EESL
With an objective to encourage the use of electric vehicles in government departments, Energy Efficiency Services Limited the autonomous department under the Ministry of Power had invited tenders from the major car makers to supply electric cars for use in government departments. In continuation that tender recently the domestic car maker Mahindra and Mahindra handed over the first fleet of 150 cars to the department.

As reported earlier during the month of September the EESL had authorized for supplying 10,000 electric vehicles to home grown car maker Tata Motors which grabbed the tender with aggressive price quote as compared to other car makers. In the same tender Mahindra and Mahindra was asked to deliver 30% of the total cars, of which 500 cars were expected to be delivered by November 30, 2017. According to the sources of Mahindra and Mahindra the y have successfully handed over the first phase of 150 cars to the department before the determined time.
Confirming about the delivery these 150 electric vehicles to EESL, Mr. Mahesh Babu, CEO, Mahindra Electric sent an email saying that, “Mahindra is pleased to deliver the first batch of e-Verito as per EESL tender for electric cars. As a pioneer of electric mobility in India, We are proud to deliver the cars on time to EESL in presence of Power Ministry officials. This is part of the phase I order of 150 cars Mahindra has bid to deliver.” According to Mr. Babu, the electric Verito car supplied by M&M will be offered at the price of Rs. 11.2 lakh per unit and will play an important role in achieving in the government’s objective of electrifying the mobility by 2030.
The electric vehicle supplied by both the domestic car makers Tata Motors and Mahindra and Mahindra will replace the existing fleet of petrol and diesel vehicles from government departments in next couple of years.
