Maruti Car sales report for May 2013

Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the country's largest passenger vehicle maker, has reported the sales figures for the month of May 2013. The company posted a decline of 14.4 per cent in total sales for previous month at 84,677 units. It had sold total 98,884 units of Maruti cars in same month of previous year. Sales of the company driven by compact sedan Maruti Swift Dzire while the compact MPV Maruti Ertiga has also done well.

Domestic sales of the company declined by 13 per cent at 77,821 units in last month this year against the total sales of 89,478 units same month of year 2012. Export of the Maruti cars in May 2013 went down by 27.1 percent to 6,856 units compared to 9,406 units in same month of last year. Meanwhile, the sales of Maruti's mini segment cars like M800, Alto, A-Star, and WagonR, went up by 5.1 percent to 31,427 units from 29,895 units in same month of year 2012.

Maruti Suzuki's compact segment cars including Estilo, Swift and Ritz reported 29.4 percent down fall in sales at 17,147 units compared to total sales of 24,290 units May, 2012. Sales of the company's flagship compact sedan Maruti Swift Dzire went down by 2.5 percent at 17,265 units against the sales of 17,707 units same month of last year. At present, it is receiving tough competition from Honda Amaze and Chevrolet Sail.

Its mid-size sedan SX4 has done well in May this year and sales of the vehicle went up by 24.2 percent at 503 units against the sales of 405 units same month of year 2012. There was no buyer for luxury sedan Kizashi last month while in the month of May last the company sold 12 units. Maruti reported a downfall of 44.3 percent in utility vehicles at 4,307 units compared to sales of 7,734 units same month of previous year. Meanwhile, sales of Maruti Vans downed by 24 percent to 7,172 units from 9,435 units in May 2012. Maruti Suzuki's reported a decline of 8.3 percent in passenger car sales by 66,342 units last month as compared to sales of 72,309 units same month of previous year.
