Maruti cars achieve 9.2 percent growth despite of Manesar outage
Maruti India has seen some of the bad times in 2011-12 and is also gripped by Manesar outage but despite of all odds, the car maker has reported 9.2 percent increase in sales in July compared to the same month last year. The increase has been majorly contributed to the outstanding sales of Maruti Swift primarily and Maruti Estilo and Maruti Ritz as the three posted year on year growth by 73.2 percent in July. Next big achievement has been that of Maruti Swift Dzire that has quadrupled its sales to 11,413 units in July. Strikingly, the small car segment took a down swing and the segment consisting of Maruti Alto, Maruti A Star and Maruti Wagon R posted a decline of 23.7 percent compared to the same period last year.

The Maruti India’s results are shocking in two ways. Where the small car segment sales have declined which are the backbone of the car makers car sales in the country and despite of the no production of Swift and Dzire at Manesar, the sales of these two cars increased. However, the increase in sales of Swift and Swift Dzire seems to be the result of panic buying as those dilly dallying the buy came to action as soon as they must have heard about the Manesar outage and that there are only some models left. It is also striking that the domestic sales rose by 6.8 percent only in July while the exports were up by 27.4 percent with new market explorations and Maruti Ertiga visiting new markets.

In all, Maruti sold 71,024 units in July and the sales of Maruti SX4 plunged by 70.5 percent and only two units of Maruti Kizashi units were sold during this period. Maruti Ertiga sales were exceptional and it too had a steep increase over last month.
