Maruti mulls over bringing Swift Sport to India

A more than 100 kW engine, dual exhausts, HID headlamps, lower door sill mouldings, enhanced suspension, rear spoiler…Yes, you guessed it right, it is the Maruti Swift Sport that is in news from a long time. We have been reporting the same time and again, but no official announcement has been made so far. If all goes well, sports car lovers will get the Swift Sport in India. It is believed that the Swift Sport model will be an excellent almost lookalike version of BMW Mini Cooper series that was launched at the Auto Expo 2012.

Currently, India has the road version of the hatch and in order to sweep the segment, the Indian car maker is expected to soon being in the Suzuki Swift Sport in the country. Expected to be slightly higher than the existing model, the Swift Sport has the guts to outshine even the peppier of the offerings.

Presently, the Swift Sport is available in countries across Europe and Australia and with the rise of preference for premium hatchbacks in India, addition of it to the existing line up will help Maruti gain volumes and consume a lot of pie of other car makers. The 136 bhp car powered by a 1.6 L engine is both quicker making the Swift Sport more Swifter. In addition to this, there are lots of features that make it a sports machine in toto. The front grille gives a sense of the large intake it needs in order to take the sports adrenaline and the reworked much swifter suspension that is enhanced than the one in the Maruti Swift, is tuned to be more responsive to the steering even at high speeds and steep turns.

In India, it is expected that the Swift Sport will not arrive in the same form and it is quite obvious that Maruti will be making some adjustments. A 1.4 L engine could be on the Swift Sport with the other trim housing 1.6 L G Series engine. These engines currently power Maruti Ertiga and Maruti SX4 respectively. The excitement of the sportier Swift will be enhanced with the 6 speaker audio system and sports pedals inside the car along with sports bucket seats, fully functional steering with paddle shift and cruise control.
