Maruti puts on hold the plans of launching Tata Nano’s rival ‘k’ cars in India
The Indian auto giant Maruti Suzuki has said that it is putting the plans of rolling-out small cars in competition with Tata Nano on hold. Selling high priced small cars in the cost conscious Indian market is very difficult, and Maruti’s ‘K’ cars would be carrying a price tag of Rs 6,00,000, making no sense to be offered in the country. Earlier, the company had said that it will launch new MR Wagon and Palette small cars in the Indian market next year. These small cars are already available for sell in the Japanese market, where Suzuki is a leading car manufacturer.
Both of these ‘K’ segment cars will be showcased at the Delhi international auto expo, where these are expected to receive an overwhelming response from the visiting car enthusiasts and visitors. The ‘K’ series small cars of Suzuki are claimed to be delivering an exceptional fuel economy of over 30 km per liter, much high as compared to 25 km per liter of the Tata Nano.
Earlier, it was expected that the company will soon roll-out these new rivals of Tata Nano, to further strengthen its position in the Indian auto market. But, the high price tag of these cars is likely to prevent the company from introducing these highly fuel efficient small cars in the Indian market.

The company is currently conducting a market study for analyzing the acceptance for this type of high priced small cars. Once completing the study, the company may look to tune these cars as per the needs and requirements of the Indian buyers of this segment.
Maruti currently has a stronghold in the small and medium segment cars in the country. The company’ current portfolio includes a range of cars including Maruti Alto, Maruti Wagon R, Maruti A-Star, Maruti Zen Estillo, Maruti Ritz, Maruti Swift, Maruti Swift Dzire, Maruti SX4 and Maruti Kizashi.
