Maruti Suzuki Developing a SUV to Compete Hyundai Creta

The compact SUV Hyundai Creta doesn’t require any introduction to introduce itself in the Indian car market. Despite various efforts made by the car manufacturers nobody is able to break the charisma of Creta from the mind of Indian buyers. The new name to enter in the race is country’s leading carmaker Maruti Suzuki India Limited. It is rumored that the Indo-Japanese carmaker is working on bringing a new compact SUV to rival the Creta.

The car is reported to be based on the Toyota New Global Architecture platform (TNGA). It is the same platform which the Japan-based carmaker has used in its recent launches introduced in the global market. In India, the company has not offered any vehicles based on this platform. It might be empowered with a 1.5-litre petrol engine coupled with a hybrid engine outsourced from Toyota. It is speculated that MSIL may also introduce a diesel engine to boost the competition.

As a result of the joint-venture, Toyota has already launched two products the hatchback Glanza and the compact SUV Urban Cruiser based on Baleno and Vitara Brezza respectively. Recently the spies captured an electric hatchback based on the Maruti Suzuki WagonR from the Japanese carmaker Toyota Motors. This is an indication that both the carmaker are now focussing on strengthening their positions in the electric vehicle segment. It is believed that Toyota WagonR EV might be launched before the Maruti’s Creta rival. It is speculated that the technical aspects of the new vehicle will be shared between both the companies. However, where the Maruti Suzuki will bring the Creta rival at an affordable price to make its position amongst the Indian audiences, Toyota Motors will make it as a premium SUV.

Earlier it was rumored that Maruti will bring an updated version of Vitara Brezza to compete against the Creta. But now both the carmaker (Maruti and Toyota) want a product which is strictly according to the Indian car market. It is the same as the compact SUV Kushaq from the Czech carmaker Skoda to rival Hyundai Creta. It is speculated that the proposed SUV from the Indo-Japanese carmaker will be much better than the Vitara Brezza, which is also one of the  best selling vehicles in India. It will also be the first product from Toyota Motors which will be based on the TNGA platform.
