Maruti Suzuki Eyes To Dominate The Electric Vehicle Segment
Going through government of India’s intentions of stopping the driving of petrol and diesel cars in India from 2030 onwards, Country’s leading car maker Maruti Suzuki India Limited has also started developing its strategy to join the bandwagon of the car manufacturers working towards the launch of electric vehicles in India. This information was revealed by Mr. R.C.Bhargava, Chairman, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, although he did not revealed company’s strategy in this direction due to absence of roadmap determined by the government to achieving the objective of becoming all-electric by 2030.

According to Mr. Bhargava, "We will make electric vehicles, but won't be able to give a definite timeline on when it will happen." In replying to the question asked about the technology used by the MSIL for developing the batteries for these vehicles he said that Maruti is in partnership with Japanese auto giant Suzuki and therefore when it will come for developing the batteries they will outsource its technology from their partner. However, Bhargava hopes that once the government’s plan is made clear to all the manufacturers their group will try to become the leader in the electric vehicle segment also. In his words, "When we go ahead with the plan, we intend to be market leaders."
Prior to this in the month of September this year, Japanese car maker Suzuki had said that it will invest up-to Rs. 1151 crore for setting its production unit for developing the batteries within the country in joint collaboration with Toshiba and Denso. The batteries developed by this collaboration will be used by the manufactured developed by MSIL.
