Maruti Suzuki short of spares, decides to close Manesar plant for 2 days

Sighting the unavailability of spares from its engine vendor Suzuki Power-train India Limited on Saturday Maruti Suzuki India took a decision to temporarily close down its Gurgaon based manufacturing unit for two days beginning from Sunday.

The company representative said that the production unit of Gurgaon will be inactive for two days that is 14th and 15th October in view of the shortage of component supply from Suzuki Power-train India Limited.

The Gurgaon factory rolled out a petty 600 units on Saturday against 2800 units on usual days, he added. The vehicles like Gypsy, Omni, M800 and Eeco which do not require any assistance from Suzuki Power-train India Limited were also not produced as the firm chooses to lock its plant for two days. After two days when the unit starts its normal rollout of vehicles the production loss incurred on account of shut down will be recovered.

Suzuki Power-train India Limited and Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Ltd are on standoff since October 7th in support of their colleagues at Maruti Suzuki India’s Manesar manufacturing unit.

The Haryana administration had earlier affirmed that the workforce’s stalemate which went into 7th day is totally illegal and the workers are violating the bond that they signed on 1st October; which marked the end of deadlock at Manesar plant.

Alleging that the groups at Maruti Suzuki India, Suzuki Power-train India Limited and Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Ltd had been found guilty by Haryana Labor Department filed a suit in court at Gurgaon. The largest passenger car maker in the country has received a severe blow in terms of production, especially for its new Maruti Swift; which was launched some days before the workers went on strike. The hatchback car has around 1 Lakh booking orders, and the waiting period given to its customers is around five to six months.
