Maruti Suzuki To Start Production Of Electric Cars & Batteries
The Indo-Japanese carmaker and country’s leading car manufacturing company Maruti Suzuki India Limited has officially announced to start the production of electric cars and batteries. According to reports, the company’s parent company Suzuki Motors Corporation has signed an MOU with the state government of Gujarat regarding this. For this, the company will invest 150 billion Yen in the state to manufacture electric cars and batteries.

The MOU was signed in the presence of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishia during the India-Japan Economic Forum held in New Delhi on March 19, 2022. During the event, Toshihiro Suzuki, Director and President, Suzuki Motor Corporation and Kenichi Ayukawa, MD & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited also marked their presence.
It is reported that to boost the production of electric vehicles in the country, the company’s regional office in Gujarat, the Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Limited will invest Rs 31 billion by 2025. The remaining 73 billion rupees will be invested in the construction of the production plant and batteries. Similarly, the Maruti Suzuki Toyotsu India Private Limited (MSTI) will Rs 450 million to develop the vehicle recycling plant by 2025.
Addressing the occasion, Toshihiro Suzuki said that “Suzuki’s future mission is to achieve carbon neutrality with small cars. We will continue active investment in India to realize Self-reliant India (Atma-nirbhar Bharat).”
At present, the electric car segment in India is dominated by carmakers like Tata Motors, Hyundai Motors, MG Motors, Mahindra. With the announcement by Maruti Suzuki India Limited to step in the production of electric cars segment, the segment will offer more options to the buyers.
