The second wave of global pandemic COVID-19 in India is not only affecting the normal life of the people but also the industries. The Indian auto industry is not an exception. Although there is no news regarding the complete shut down by any of the industries. Some of the auto manufacturing industries are working with half of their workforce, whereas some of the industries have suspended their operation for a few weeks. Amid all these restrictions, the country's leading car manufacturer the Indo-Japanese group Maruti Suzuki India Limited in a statement said that there is no interruption in its production activities due to the restrictions from the government. Addressing the press conference virtually, after the board meeting of the company to discuss the progress during the fourth quarter of the FY 2020-21, R C Bhargava, Chairman, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, that production units of the company are working with 100% efficiency.

According to the sales statistics revealed by the company the vehicle production during the fourth quarter of the FY2021 recorded the dynamic growth of more than 85%. The company manufactured 1,72,433 units of vehicle as compared to 92,540 units manufactured during FY2020. However, with this we should not forget that last year lockdown was imposed in the whole country during the latter month of March. However, during the months of February 2020 and February 2021, the company recorded the growth of 2.5 percent by producing 1,68,180 vehicles in February this year.
At present the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Delhi have imposed lockdown with some relaxations with an increasing number of cases suffering from COVID-19. However, the state governments in these states have not ordered to halt the production activities, there is a minimum impact on the production activities of some of the car manufacturers. Maruti Suzuki India Limited has its production units located in Gurugram and Manesar of Haryana where the state government has not imposed the lockdown yet.
In the words of Mr. R C Bhargava, "We are not under a lockdown right now. Unlike the nation-wide lockdown imposed last year, only 2 or 3 states have gone into lockdown, and that too with some exceptions that allow several companies to function"
