Maruti Swift and Dzire outage proves boon for other cars

The damage that Marut’s Manesar plant has done to the popular hatchback Maruti Swift and the sedan Maruti Swift Dzire is unfathomable. However, the loss to the Swift and Dzire is the gain for some of its rivals and there is some public opinion coming up that there could be another factor that triggered the violence at the plant. Now, due to the above month lockout, the backlog for Swift has risen to 80,000 units and it will take another three four months to put things back on track. Meanwhile, other cars in the segment such as Ford Figo, Skoda Fabia, Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai i20, Renault Pulse and Nissan Micra have reported considerable rise in sales in this period. However, the sales data for August is still awaited but early projections affirm this trend.

Now that the production has restarted at the Manesar plant, it is expected that Maruti will be able to put things back to normal soon and will also prepare itself for the big show during the festive season. But it is sure that the outage has certainly affected the bumper sales that Maruti was expecting for the Swift and Dzire. The other two cars produced at the plant are Maruti SX4 and Maruti A Star which seldom have good sales and thus there is no impact on domestic sales due to it. Initially, Maruti will be producing only 150 cars a day and will soon take the capacity to 1700 cars a day.

The other sedans that have made much hay while it is dark clouds were hovering over Maruti plant include Skoda Rapid, Toyota Etios and Tata Indigo. These sedans have reportedly literally enjoyed the no production period and their demand is said to have reached the top and in the near future as well it seems that these cars will enjoy the rise in demand phase for some more months until the supply of Swift and Dzire comes back to normal.
