Maruti Swift and Swift Dzire waiting period to push i20, Verna, Indigo sales

Maruti has been reeling under crisis following the murder at Manesar plant following which Maruti Swift and Swift Dzire waiting periods are bulging day by day. It is said that this will be to the advantage of Hyundai Motors India as the Hyundai i20 is the second most popular car in the segment after Swift. Thus, it is expected that i20 sales will see some new heights this month. Latest sales data reveal that soon after the ruckus at Manesar plant and the reports that it has affected Swift and Maruti Swift Dzire production, the sales of i20 has been on the upside. Meanwhile, the Manesar plant remained closed leading to further no supply of Swift and Dzire sedan.

It is also evidently known that the sales of the Tata Indigo eCs and Mahindra Verito will also benefit from the lockout at Manesar. Notably, the Swift and Swift Dzire are the key models of Maruti India and these are the most trusted and largest selling models after Maruti Alto and Maruti Alto K10. Now that these models are hit, it will give an opportunity to other cars including Skoda Fabia, Ford Figo in the hatch back segment and Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid and other cars in the sedan segment to take the lead. Hyundai Verna sales are expected to be most benefitted due to the short supply of Dzire sedan.

Currently, there is a six month waiting period on Swift and Swift Dzire and the strike has stretched it further leading to the level where there will be over 70 percent loss of sales. In the car industry, a waiting period of around one month is considered normal while a six month waiting would have been too risky for any other car but it is Swift and Swift Dzire that could have such waiting period and still the bookings remain on the high. If it were some other model by other car maker, the model would have been discarded long ago.
