Maruti Swift Sport, let us hope if something sporty remains in it

Do you wish to have Maruti Swift Sport at the price of BMW X1? Or, you wish to have an under powered Swift at a little extra than the present generation Maruti Swift. You will obviously be satisfying yourself with the later one. As per the recent updates, the Swift Sport will be powered either by the 1.4 litre petrol engine inherited from Maruti Ertiga or the 1.6 litre derived from Maruti SX4 contrary to the original engine in the international Swift Sport. Notably, the Indian car market is abuzz with the reports that Maruti will be launching the much peppier and sporty avatar – Maruti Swift Sport in India soon.

The reason behind this more than real assumption is that if Maruti happens to imbibe the M16 A engine that has 1.6 litre capacity with 135 PS power, then the import duty will make it more costlier than expected. However, if the price is kept low the three door hatchback will be competing with the likes of Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Fabia that offer the Swift Sport like capabilities. However, adorned with rear spoiler, unique front styling and lots of other sporty features will make this Maruti car more adorable in the country where craze for sports cars is on the rise and car makers such as Ferrari and Lamborghini have launched best of their sports cars.

Thus bringing in the Swift Sport as it is will be a costly affair and so Maruti may rip of the 1.6 L engine and replace it with the 1.4 petrol from Ertiga or if it think to really make it sporty enough then the 1.6 L engine from the Maruti SX4 in it. Therefore, it would be no less than a mirage to expect the same sporty engine in the Swift. In all probability, Maruti will have to tweak the 1.4 L engine to output a higher power and if that happens, Maruti Swift will hardly match the Swift Sport. In such a case, what India may get is a low on power Swift Sport that has the looks but lacks the power under the hood.
