Maruti Swift's production goes back to normal and the bookings figure crosses the 1 Lakh mark
After facing a loss of 18,000 units, or Rs. 900 crores, Maruti Suzuki's production at the Manesar plant has come back to normal. The workers' strike, which started on August 29, has not yet ended, but the company has hired new workers and started production of its highest selling car Maruti Swift. The bookings of Maruti Swift have reached the figure of 1.08 Lacs, and the company is keen to produce and deliver these cars as soon as possible. For the same reason, Maruti Suzuki has hired 800 experienced new workers and moved 90 engineers to Manesar plant from its Gurgaon plant. All in all, around 1,300 workers are presently working at the two Manesar plants of Maruti Suzuki.
The company is now, on an average, producing 700 units of Maruti Swift daily. The total production output of the car is thus projected to reach around 17,500 units per month. The company has showed confidence in meeting the huge demand and said that it hopes to take the sales figure to 17,000-18,000 units per month mark, which was earlier 12,000 units per month. Maruti Suzuki is also offering heavy discounts (20% more than the last year) to its buyers, in order to increase the sales.
The company, on an average, manufactures 1,200 units per day of Maruti Swift, Maruti SX4 and Maruti A Star. The total number of workers at the Manesar plant are 2,500. 950 of these workers are permanent workers. The company said that the supply of its cars, for the forthcoming festive season would not be affected by any means.
