Maruti, Tata and Hyundai dole out discounts on petrol cars, other car makers to follow suit

Maintaining Honda CR V or Audi Q7 4.2 FSI petrol car when petrol prices have soared to more than Rs 76 a litre is like having an elephant in your farm. Powerful and grand but it will gradually eat away your resources. Sensing the steep rise in petrol prices, car makers such as Maruti, Hyundai and Tata are giving discounts of up to Rs 50,000 on their petrol cars for the time being till the petrol price are moderated to some extent. Notably, all the car makers are worried that with the rise in petrol prices, the demand for petrol cars will come down fast and thus in order to protect themselves from the damage they are offering discounts and offers on petrol cars.

As per the latest reports, Maruti is giving away Maruti Alto at a special discount of Rs 30,000 while Tata is offering discounts of up to Rs 50,000 on Tata Indica and Tata Indigo petrol cars. Hyundai India on the other hand is giving a meager discount of Rs 3,000 on all its petrol cars including Hyundai Eon, Hyundai Santro, Hyundai i10 and others. Mayank Pareek, Managing Executive Officer Maruti India has reportedly said that the current discount on Alto is to stop the falling sales and further boost sales to a good level. The discount will continue till month end.

On the small car Tata Nano the discount the company is offering is Rs 10,000. Meanwhile, auto industry experts have said that such discounts will be just some breathers and is not expected to offer a permanent solution to the situation. Petrol car sales, specially the entry level cars are bound to decrease and people will prefer paying an extra lakh rupee to get a diesel car instead. Thus it is expected that entry level diesel hatchbacks such as Tata Indica, Chevrolet Beat Diesel and others will be the winners for the time being.
