Maruti to suspend car production for a day

The market conditions have forced the car makers to voluntarily suspend production of their cars due to low demand last year and it seems that they will be forced to do so this year as well. Maruti India is going to suspend production of its petrol cars at the Gurgaon plant as the yard is full and there is slow demand from the dealers. Meanwhile, sources confirmed that the diesel car production could also be slowed down a bit as the demand for diesel cars is also on the downside. If this happens, the production of Maruti Alto 800, Maruti 800, and Maruti Wagon R will be suspended. The plant will remain closed on this Sunday, as per various media updates. The daily production capacity of the Gurgaon plant is up to 1800 cars.

Meanwhile, the Manesar plant will be operating at its normal capacity and it is here that diesel cars are produced. But it is believed that if the demand doesn’t improve in the coming days then the car maker could think of suspending the production of Maruti Swift, Maruti Swift Dzire and other diesel cars. No doubt, the market conditions have impacted even the big wigs and this is the reason why Maruti has decided of a voluntary no production day.

The recent Budget declarations have further dampened demand of cars in India but the small car segment is expected to grow further even in this tough time as Tata has already slashed the price of its small cars. If in case the situation continues, more and more car makers will be declaring no production days soon as piling up inventory is of no use if there is no demand in the country. In this tough time, still there are cars such as Maruti Ertiga, Maruti Alto 800, Swift Dzire and Swift that have not lost their demand. Though a slowdown is experienced.
