Maruti’s Manesar plant strike spoils Haryana’s industrial image
The last two weeks have been very troublesome for the country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), at its Manesar plant. Just a month after a two week long strike of workers at its Manesar plant that crippled the production of cars, the company has been going through yet another stand-off at its Manesar plant since August 29th.
The consecutive workers strike at Manesar has alarmed the Industry chambers in Haryana, who have now raised concern over these standoffs. The industry chambers have asked the government to resolve the ongoing impasse at Maruti’s Manesar plant on an immediate basis.
The recent trouble at Maruti’s Manesar plant started on the August 29th when the company forced its permanent workforce to sign the ‘good conduct bond’, which was later on refused by most of the company employees.
The worker’s strike took a violent turn after a group of Maruti supervisors was allegedly attacked by striking workers. As per the media reports, about 10 workers of Maruti got injured in this incident. The workers however, have said that they were not involved in the attack.
According to a statement given by Gurgaon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Founder President, P K Jain, it is very sad to learn that labour unrest is still going on in Maruti car plant at Manesar. This issue should have not been allowed to prolong.
The production of Swift model has been affected very badly due to this strike. The car was launch in the second last week of August 2011, and its bookings have already crossed 80,000 mark. The company is now forced to stop the bookings till production reaches its normal level again.
