Maruti’s Manesar plant to limp back to normal in a fortnight
Maruti will take another fortnight to put things back to normal at the Manesar plant. Once the things normalize, production will be back on track and supply of Maruti Swift, Maruti Swift Dzire and Maruti SX4 will smoothen. However, it will take another month for the car maker to overcome the backlog. On the other hand experts in the industry believe that the loss of production of the two popular models will be worrying the car maker this festive season as well as it is uncertain whether the carmaker will be able to meet the spur in demand at that time. If that happens it will be another jolt to the car maker as the festive season is when most of the car buying happens in India.
The other update regarding the Manesar plant is that the car maker could shift some of the production to other regions as Maruti is already coming up with a plant at Mehsana in Gujarat. Reports have also come in that now Maruti will be giving a final call to the proposed C plant and Manesar. Experts believe that in the changed circumstances, the car maker will not invest a single penny in Haryana any more and it will be focusing on other plants where there were no such big, really big outages. Meanwhile, the Haryana government is all its bit to put things back on track at the Manesar plant and is taking special precaution to avert any such incident at the site.
Notably, the almost a month long lockout at the Manesar plant has severely affected production of Swift, Swift Dzire and SX4 besides the export model Maruti A Star and this has resulted in the sales loss of over Rs 90 lakh daily. The lockout continued to over 21 production days. This has also affected Maruti’s total sales performance in July-Aug as well as the annual sales are also badly affected. Now Maruti eyes to put the lost sheen back by bringing production back to normal.
