Mercedes Benz B Class F-Cell becomes Best Electric Car with Fuel Cell

Mercedes Benz B Class F-Cell has won the Best electric car with fuel cell title recently. The small family car also turned out to be most efficient electric car that is powered by a fuel cell. First introduced in 2005 as a small car, the B Class has remained the favorite of car buyers across the globe. Currently in its second generation, the B Class petrol and diesel is a close rival of Ford C-MAX and Volkswagen Golf Plus. The B Class hatchback is also an upcoming Mercedes car in India and is expected to be priced around Rs 26 lakh just above the Mercedes Benz A Class hatch.

The title of being the Best electric car with fuel cell was acclaimed to the car after users of two magazines voted for it. Mercedes introduced the fuel cell technology in B Class in 2009 and by a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen, the car produces its own electricity and runs for 400 km in a tank full. As per the information available on the internet, the small Mercedes Benz car replenishes its fuel in just three minutes. The fuel cell powers a 100 kW motor that is powerful enough compared to a petrol car powered by a 2000 cc engine. But unlike the petrol or diesel powered cars, the B Class F Cell car has zero emission.

Over 18k readers of two auto magazines took the online survey and chose B Class F Cell as the winner in this category. Back in India, the fuel cell cars are only a dream and even electric cars do not sell in numbers here. The only electric car Mahindra Reva could not maintain sales and is hoped to be replaced by a new version Mahindra Reva NXR this Diwali. However, in India, people do not have a taste for electric or alternatively fueled cars and thus prospects of B Class F Cell coming to India are remote. Thought the petrol and diesel variants of the B Class are expected to be launched soon in the coming months.
