Mercedes Benz B Class launched in India at Rs 21.4 lakh

German Car Company has launched the Mercedes Benz B Class Sports Tourer today at a starting price of Rs 21.49 lakh. This is unbelievable but true and keeping the price so low means that Mercedes is desperate to put itself back to the numero uno position in the luxury car market. The company has launched two variants – Mercedes Benz B 180 and Mercedes Benz B 180 Sport. The later is priced at Rs 24.8 lakh. The presence of seven air bags, panoramic roof and attention assist apart from a lot of other features make it a must buy and a price tag of Rs 21.49 for a Mercedes car is worth it. The car has bagged 250 units’ bookings and it is expected that it will rise further to 1000 units in the first week. The car will be imported as completely built unit and its production in India will start in early 2014.

Notably, other car makers such as BMW and Audi have overthrown Mercedes and have secured the first and the second position respectively. Now that a Mercedes car is available at such an attractive price, it seems that the car maker will soon be getting the required numbers on the sales chart to secure the top slot for itself. In India, the B Class will be competing with the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3.

Out of the two prime rivals, the Q3 is creating much commotion in the market since its launch lately while the X1 has been the best selling SUV by BMW. Thus the segment is not so easy but the B Class price will be attracting a large number of people towards it. With the launch the entry level price of a Mercedes car in India has come down from Rs 29 lakh for the C Class to Rs 21.49 lakh for the B Class. This also suggests that Mercedes still has a large gap in between and it can launch as many cars positioned in this price band as it can. The B Class launched today is a Sports Tourer and has created a new segment for itself. The petrol powered car has a 1.6 L engine that has a peak power capacity of 122 bhp. With the BlueEFFICIENCY in place, the car will be highly frugal. The top speed of the car is 190 kmph and it can sprint to a 100 kph mark in just 10.2 seconds.
