Mercedes-Benz India registers 30 per cent growth
Mercedes-Benz India is going from strength to strength as it has registered a growth of approximately 30% in comparison to last year’s sale figures. Mercedes Benz C Class remained the leader of class leading sales. If the sources are to be believed, Mercedes Benz has sold 7,430 units in 2011 through company’s dealer. In 2010, the sales figure of Mercedes Benz was 5,819 units. In almost every big city in the country, Mercedes Benz has its dealers in almost 31 cities. The sale figures of 2011 were collected from all the 70 outlets of 31 cities.

The relationship of Mercedes Benz with India is not new. To peep in the traces of presence of Mercedes-Benz in the country, one has to go back almost to 1950. Mercedes-Benz entered in the Indian market by launching a truck with local company’s tie up. The company is now strengthening its presence in the Indian market. For the purpose, the Mercedes-Benz India has already set up a factory at Chakan in Pune in 2009. The company has purchased around 100 acre of land for the production plant.

The market of luxury cars in India is growing significantly. Industry source said that in the last five years (since 2006), the market of luxury cars has grown by almost seven times. To cash in on the demand BMW and Audi also arrived in Indian market to compete with Mercedes. According to an estimate, by the end of 2020, that people in India would buy around 1, 50,000 units of luxury cars. A recent media report suggests that Mercedes Benz is planning to introduce 10 new models in the next coming five years to tap the growing Indian market in terms of luxury cars. Industry sources claimed that out of the 10 such brands, 3-5 would be compact brands. Recently, Mercedes-Benz India has launched a variant of GL SUV in the Indian market.
