Mercedes Benz R Class to be phased out soon
Mercedes Benz R Class, a luxurious MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) by German luxury car maker Mercedes Benz, will soon be discontinued in India and in global markets due to slow sales. In Indian auto market, the R Class MPV was positioned between M Class and GL Class, but the beast is not doing well. The company assembles this luxury MPV at Tuscaloosa plant in Alabama, USA and it is being offered to Indian customers as CBU (Completely Built Unit).

The R Class MPV is being offered to Indian buyers in two trims like R350 4Matic Long and R350 CDI 4MATIC which carry a 3.5-liter V6 petrol engine and a 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine respectively. All these variants of the vehicle are available between Rs 61 lakh to Rs 71 lakh in Indian domestic market. In terms of pricing and features it is standing up against the Audi Q7. Despite of high-end luxury features and competitive price, the R Class has failed to lure customers in both in Indian and in overseas markets.

It is said that the company will not bring out the re-freshed or next generation model of the R Class for both Indian and overseas markets. Before phasing out, the luxury car giant could also offer the impressive discount on R Class price. On the other hand, it has recently launched the next generation version of the GL Class SUV that will be followed by A Class hatchback.
