New Mitsubishi cars to be launched with no HM collaboration

The Japanese car manufacturer, Mitsubishi Motors has been working in collaboration with the Indian automaker, Hindustan Motors (HM) for a long time. Jointly, both Mitsubishi and HM have brought in some best in class products like the Lancer saloon and the Pajero crossover on the domestic shores. For last few years, the Mitsubishi cars have not been quite impressive on the domestic sub-continent due to the increase in competition with the modern sedans and crossovers.

In addition, both the car makers have not really affirmed any new product initiatives to delight the enthusiasts. What we can say is that the car maker has been consistently falling in its sales stats with the time. A day back, the company introduced the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport SUV which it hopes to sell in a good numbers. The car maker, Mitsubishi is also looking forward to launch a small car in the Indian auto-market that is speculated to be the Mirage.

As HM getting more fleet on the commercial vehicle segment rather than the passenger car segment, Mitsubishi Motors might look forward to come all alone as the passenger car trader. Moreover, another reason can be that Mitsubishi might try to grow along with the boom in the Indian auto-market. Currently, Mitsubishi has been struggling to show its dominance in the domestic car market though it has got a good fleet of crossovers to cater the passengers.

Indications of HM and Mitsubishi separation can be drawn from the statement of Masahiko Ueki, Executive Officer and Corporate General Manager of Asia and ASEAN, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation Japan who stated that they might intend to proceed as a sole trader in the Indian auto-market. He also commented that they have ample of choices and they are currently exploring all of them. He further said that they currently don’t know if they are going to carry with HM as their partner in future or not and they are looking at all the other options. He also affirmed that they might utilize the HM’s Chennai facility to manufacture their small car.
