MSIL Playing An Incredible Role In Controlling CO2 Emissions
While the government of India and automakers are working on adopting new methods and strategies for controlling the impacts of CO2 emission level by introducing the BS-VI compliant engines and encouraging the use of electric vehicles, country’s leading car making company Maruti Suzuki India Limited is not leaving any stone unturned in this direction and working behind the curtains to protect the ecosystem by using the rail transportation for dropping the new vehicles at dealerships throughout the country. The Indo-Japanese carmaker is reported to using rail transportation for carrying its vehicles since March 2014, and for this, it is using the double-decker Flexi-deck rakes of the Indian Railways.

According to the sources of the company, it has despatched more than 6,70,000 cars with a CAGR of 18 percent. During the Financial Year 2020, the company had despatched 1,78,000 vehicles through trains, which makes an overall increase of 15 percent every year. It would be interesting to know that using the trains for the transportation of the despatched vehicles not only helped the company in minimizing the time consumed for transporting the vehicles through other sources of transportation, but also helped in reducing the carbon footprints to almost 3,000 MT of CO2 as told by the sources of MSIL.
In the words of, Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director, and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India, “Considering the increasing volumes, our team felt the need for large-scale logistics flow. We realized, that not only for expansion but also for risk mitigation we have to look beyond road mode logistics.” Moving ahead using the railway for the transportation of the despatched vehicles the carmaker also succeeded in avoiding more than 1,00,000 trips made by the heavy-duty cargo trucks carrying the despatched vehicles, thus saving almost 100 million liters of diesel within the country.
