MSIL Working On New Technology To Improve Fuel Efficiency
With growing concern for pollution free environment and increasing need of fuel efficient vehicles, country’s leading car maker Maruti Suzuki India Limited is reported to work on new technology that will help in cutting the emission at one end and enhance the fuel efficiency of its upcoming vehicles. According to the sources of company they have been able to minimize the level of CO2 emission of its vehicles up-to 19 percent during the decade since 2007-08.

Speaking about new technology, Mr. C.V. Raman, India Executive Director (Engineering) Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, "Going forward, we will continue our focus on investing in new technologies and strengthen our capability to bring down emissions per vehicle by enhancing fuel efficiency of our cars,” Apart from upgrading its existing engine and gear transmission system for improving fuel efficiency by offering aerodynamic models, the Indo-Japanese car makers are also working on developing light weight engines which at present are offered in Baleno hatchback and recently launched Dzire.
Detailing about its strategy for minimizing the CO2 emission sources of company said that they started working on this technology back in 2005-06 considering 100 as base for its entire portfolio and interestingly they have succeeded in bringing it down to 80 in 2016-17 in correspondence of 98.5 a decade back in 2007-08. The sources of company also added that use of mild hybrid technology and factory fitted CNG system in vehicles have played an incredible role in meeting its objective of developing eco-friendly vehicles.
The sources of company also said that at present three most fuel efficient cars running on Indian roads are from company’s yard. These three cars Celerio diesel hatchback, compact sedan Dzire and mid-sized sedan Ciaz.
