Rumors in the market suggest that Modi’s plans for encouraging the Suzuki Officials in Japan is right on time considering the unfortunate event that took place at the Manesar plant of Maruti Suzuki recently.  In 2008 October, Narendra Modi successful convinced the Tata Group’s chief Ratan Tata to shift its plant to the manufacture its low cost Tata Nano to Sanand. Modi will be accompanied by a senior government official to Japan to meet the Suzuki chairman, Mr. Osamu Suzuki.

Maruti, makers of Maruti Swift, Maruti Alto, and Maruti Ertiga etc., is the country’s largest car manufacturer and bringing its manufacturing operations to Gujarat might turn Gujarat into a much bigger hub for carmaker. In 2011, Maruti India sadly saw a downfall in the production of over 2500 crore. This was mainly due to the labor unrest that took place at the Manesar Manufacturing plant. The latest brutal event at the same plant might result in shutting down the facility for at least a month.

Narendra Modi has put in a lot of efforts to make Gujarat a global hub for the car makers. Before Narendra Modi was the CM of Gujarat, only General Motors was present with its manufacturing plant at Halol located in Vadodara that was established in 1990s. Under Modi’s government, numerous international carmakers, like Ford India, PSA Peugeot Citroen, a heavy commercial manufacturer- Bombardier of Canada and Asia Motor Works, and Tata Motors came to Gujarat and set up their manufacturing units. Even, Hero Moto Corp is planning to search for land for their manufacturing facility.
