NCAP Rating system for cars in Indian car market
The Indian auto industry will have to soon follow a new car safety performance assessment program in coming future which will be similar to Euro NCAP. According to reports Ministry Road and Transport is soon going to initiate the process under which Indian automobile industries will have to carry out various safety and crash test programs of all the vehicles manufactured within the country.
The New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) can be described as a safety rating system which determines the safety measures offered in car and then determine their rating on measurement scale of five. This rating is carried out on the basis of different crash tests conducted from different angles on specific car. It would be important to know that all major car making countries have their separate standards for conducting safety tests of vehicles manufactured in their country. It is necessary for every vehicle to go through this specific test before being released for sale in market. The Ministry of Road and Transport has also decided to examine the physical strength of cars during this test, as till now cars manufactured in India have to undergo only front and rear crash tests.
For proper implementation of this rating system, National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project has set up the Centre of Excellence for Passive Safety at GARC-Chennai followed by two more centers at iCAT and ARAI. So from now samples of vehicles that are manufactured in India will have to mandatorily clear this test so as to get certificate of being blessed with all requisite safety measures.
