New breath of life for motorsports in India
Marking a strong entry in the JK Tyre National Racing Championship, the European auto giant Volkswagen is very well playing the role of an initiator in the field of motorsports in the Indian market. The response received by the Volkswagen is now attracting other leading multinational car makers to join the league Motorsport enthusiast car makers in the country. The Japanese auto giant Nissan had recently indicated that it is looking forward to initiate a drifting championship in the Indian market. The other interested car makers include Japanese auto giant Toyota and Germany based leading luxury car maker Audi.
Moreover, the recently concluded Polo R Cup has given a new lease of life to the hopes Indian motorsport enthusiasts. Many of you may not be aware that just three years back two federations were fighting a legal battle for the control of this body. The warring federations had completely torn the Indian motorsport, proving a major dampener in the popularity of the motorsports among the Indian car enthusiasts.
In addition to this, the mega even of the first Indian Formula one Gran prix in the October last week, has made a substantial contribution in raising the popularity of motorsports in the Indian market. The active participation of the global auto giants including French car maker Renault and Germany based leading luxury car maker Mercedes Benz, proved a major popularity booster for motorsports and car racing in India.
The India motorsport racing drivers are now getting chance to participate at global platforms, all thanks to the racing events held in the Indian market in recent months. For instance, Vishnu Prasad who is this year’s Polo R Cup winner will now get a chance to participate in Sirocco Cup in Germany, which has a driver’s worth of Rs 48 lakhs.
