New Design Of Battery Will Let You Charge Your EV In Ten Minutes

The charging span of the battery installed in the electric vehicles is one of the major issues that restrict the buyers towards the use of these vehicles. But now, according to the study conducted by the Penn State University in the United States of America, a short explosion at high temperature will help in charging the lithium-ion batteries faster without making any severe impact on the battery.

It would be interesting to know that going through the concern of electric vehicle owners towards the charging time of four to five hours, various initiatives are initiated by the car manufacturing industry at the regular intervals. Now, after recent invent by the students of Penn State University, the owners of the electric vehicles will be able to charge their batteries ten minutes faster than their actual charging time. According to the reports revealed by the NewScientist reveals that the new design helps in heating the battery to enhance the rate of reaction.

It is reported that the team of students conducted various tests at the different temperatures 40 degrees, 49 degrees, and 60 degrees Celcius and then compared to the battery that was charged at the temperature of 20 degrees Celcius. It was seen that the battery retained the efficiency of charging for 60 cycles at 20 degrees Celcius, after which the lithium plating started creating the problems, thus reducing the performance. On the other side, heating the electrode at the temperature of 60 degrees Celcius allowed the battery to charge 2500 cycles without creating lithium plating which adversely could impact its performance.

The above study overtakes the existing thought of not charging the lithium batteries at the high temperature, which results in degrading the battery. A short burst at high temperature is helpful in delivering the best charging results. It is speculated that the recent study will further boost the initiatives initiated for enhancing the charging speed of the battery used in the electric vehicles.
