New Suzuki electric cars to hit Indian roads soon

Suzuki Motor Corporation, the leading manufacturer of small cars in the Japanese market, is looking forward to launch its electric vehicle range in the Indian market. However, it sees the lack of infrastructure for electric vehicle in the country a major challenge for rolling out electric cars in India. Besides the electric car, the company is also planning to strengthen its line-up of diesel run cars, as demand for diesel run-cars has got a major boost due to the sky-rocketing prices of petrol fuel.

According to Mr. Toshihiro Suzuki, who is Director & Executive Vice President, and Executive General Manager at SMI, the car maker is considering to launch electric vehicle in the high potential Indian market. He, however, added that though there is a possibility of rolling-out electric vehicles, but lack of infrastructure is the only problem the company will be facing. He however refused to reveal the specifications of the electrical vehicles that the company plans to launch in India.

As per the company, while the CNG and LPG versions launched in recent years are already facing infrastructure issue, launching electric cars in India will be a bigger challenge for the company.

At the recently inaugurated Tokyo Motor Show, Suzuki has showcased a range of eco friendly vehicles including Swift electric hybrid vehicle, and an eco friendly version of Alto named as Alto Eco. The newly displayed Alto Eco is claimed to be delivering a mileage of 30.2 km per liter.
