New Valve-train Engine to Boost Fuel Efficiency
Now days when prices of fuel are hiking at jet dynamic speed and vehicles owners across the world are hunting for fuel efficient vehicles, interestingly Britain based technology firm Camcon Automotive has developed a new revolutionary engine set christened as Intelligent Valve Actuation (IVA) which is endorsed to deliver fuel efficiency equivalent to diesel engines and driveability similar to petrol engines with improved emissions. The newly developed engine configuration is the result of six years hard work, research and test drives. The technology firm is now contacting for automakers and component suppliers for introducing this engine configuration in their upcoming vehicles for enhancing the fuel efficiency of their vehicles including both hybrid and fuel based cars.

The noteworthy feature of Intelligent Valve Actuation (IVA) engine system has the integration of electromechanical actuators that are mounted at the top of engine with each equipped with a short camshaft that results in opening of the valve. According to reports the prototype unit displayed in front of experts from Autocar, it was witnessed that the engine is equipped with eight actuators and camshafts that revolve around the engine. The valve close and open accordingly and controlled by a managed computer system. At present the system is placed in a metal box above the engine and during production it is expected to be connected with engine control unit functions.
Commenting on the working of IVA, Roger Stone, Technical Director at Camcon, who has been associated with the project since its inception and who considers himself as the lifelong engine man, “the system allows valve lift, valve timing and duration to be independently and infinitely controllable. This breaks the previously unbreakable mechanical link between valve operation and the rotation of the crankshaft that has been a factor in all piston engine design for well over a century”.
Embellished with smooth valve actuation, the engine can be configured depending upon the preferences of the driver offering smooth driving experience at the time when high power is required at the time for driving the vehicle.
