Nissan to launch Datsun K2 small car to take on Maruti Alto and Hyundai Eon
Nissan India that shares its production plant with Renault India is soon to bring its budget car brand Datsun in India. The Nissan Datsun brand will debut with a small car K2 that is expected to take on Maruti Alto and Korean car Hyundai Eon. Plunging in the small car segment which is also the volume segment in India and putting up a low priced small car like K2 means only one thing – bumper sales. And it is what Nissan must be expecting from the car code named K2. The new Nissan Datsun car is under development and will be priced under Rs 3 lakh. The Nissan Datsun K2 launch date will be some time next year.

Series of anticipations about a probable small car from the Nissan-Renault alliance were on since the two had setup a manufacturing plant in Chennai jointly. However, there was no output in the form of an ultra low cost car from the alliance. Now that Nissan has decided to bring Datsun to India, hope there will be series of low priced cars that become instant hit in India. It is expected that the K2 will be powered by a 1000 cc engine which is more than Hyundai Eon and similar to Maruti Alto. The exact shape, looks are still unknown but in all probability it will be a small car like on the lines of Alto and unlike the experimental design of Tata Nano that is too small.

The Datsun K2 will also be launched in diesel version that will step up its prospects in the segment as India eagerly awaits an entry level diesel car in the price segment of Rs 3 lakh to Rs 3.5 lakh. The car after initial development phase will go into production next year and will be launched in India.
