No Use Of Leather Anymore In Volvo Electric Cars

With an objective to protect the animals from killing for personal interests, Swedish carmaking company Volva has taken a holistic approach. According to recent reports, the carmaker has announced to stop the use of leather in its upcoming electric cars. The company plans to make its electric car's free from the use of leather latest by 2030.

This announcement from the carmaker comes in compliance with its ambitious project of making its cars leather-free. For this, the company is working on finding the options of high-quality and sustainable materials used in manufacturing cars. The company aims to use 25% of recycled and bio-based products in its car's by 2025. It is also looking for suppliers that use 100 per cent renewable energy.

The company has taken this after the increasing concern of negative impacts from cattle farming on the environment. According to an estimate, livestock is responsible for affecting the global greenhouse gas emissions up to 14% due to human activities. Most of which comes from cattle farming.

The company will continue to offer wool blend options in its car, supplied from certified suppliers. The carmaker wants to ensure traceability and animal welfare in the list of suppliers from whom it receives the wool. It is also looking to minimise the consumption of residual products received from livestock production used in plastics, lubricants, adhesives, and rubber. The Sweden based carmaker firmly believes that making a car leather-free is not enough to make its interior completely vegan.

By eliminating the use of such materials, the company is making a strong and ethical position in doing a great to protect the animals.
