Officials Of Environmental Ministry To Use Electric Cars For Driving
Taking the step ahead towards the use of electric vehicles within the government departments, Ministry of Environment has hired five electric cars to deal with the problem of increasing pollution. According to the recent report revealed by Ministry of Environment it has acquired five electric cars on the trial basis. Out of these five cars three cars have been provided to the high officials of ministry.
Sharing the picture of tweet posted by the Ministry of Environment, the sources said, "@moefcc acquires Electric Cars for official duty thereby utilising in-house charging facilities and setting an example in pollution free commutes." The three cars allotted to the ministry officials includes joint secretary, inspector general and director general.
It would be interesting to know that it was almost two years in 2017 when the state owned Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) had invited bids from electric car manufacturers across the world for hiring 10,000 electric cars and provide them to the officers of the government departments for encouraging the use of electric vehicles in the India by 2030. After which the contract was given jointly to Indian car manufacturers Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra.
After that in December 2017 the fleet of compact sedan Tata Tigor Electric were supplied to the Energy Efficient Services Limited by the domestic car maker Tata Motors. Now with Ministry of Environment itself taking initiative towards the efforts of controlling the impacts of pollution, it is speculated that other government departments will also come in front and hire such vehicles and provide them to their officials.
