Over 91,000 Units Of Kia And Hyundai Cars Recalled In US

The Korean carmaker Hyundai Motors and its alliance Kia Motors have recalled more than 91,000 units of their cars in the United States due to risks of fire from the suspected electrical components. According to reports about 52,000 units of Hyundai cars and 40,000 units of Kia cars are reported to suffer from this issue. The list of affected Hyundai models includes the Hyundai Palisade (2023-24), Hyundai Tucson (2023), Hyundai Sonata, and Hyundai Kona. Speaking about Kia cars, the list includes the Seltos 2023-24 and the Soul and the Sportage 2023. It is reported that both companies have instructed the owners of the suspected vehicles to stay away from their vehicles and park them outside the dealership until the repairs tasks are accomplished.

Recently there were reports of these vehicles affected by the defect while they were in the idle position. The problem is reported to happen in the assembly of the oil pump. It is reported that the affected components overheat over time and may get fired. The fire may also affect other components and may result in short circuits in other onboard components used to control the vehicle. According to reports, both companies have received overall ten vehicles including six Hyundai and four Kia affected by the suspected thermal defect. However, both the manufacturers have reported no loss of life or damage to property from this issue.

The reports also reveal that the companies will inform the owners of these vehicles by the end of September 2023 and their dealerships will replace the defective oil pump controllers free of cost. In a document issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Hyundai has instructed its dealerships to rent cars to the owners of the defective units until the issue is fixed in their cars. The manufacturers have also instructed the owners of these vehicles to avoid driving and tow their vehicles to the nearest dealership if they notice a burning or melting smell from their vehicle.
