Peugeot to launch cars through CBU route, no tie up with GM
Peugeot and General Motors India will have no alliance in India and both will be operating individually unlike Europe where both have a tie up. Notably, Peugeot has expressed its deep interest for a comeback in India with Peugeot 508 and Peugeot 3008 besides other cars in India. The car maker had originally planned to assemble the cars at its Gujarat plant and as per the recent buzz Peugeot will deliver cars by early 2013 or 2014 but it will be through the completely built unit route. The car maker has already showcased some of its probable offering for India at the Auto Expo held in New Delhi in January.
Peugeot will be beginning its line up with the 508 sedan and plans to pitch in over ten other cars in India including the Peugeot RCZ Sports Coupe. The French car maker has expressed that owing to the financial troubles in Europe, it will be launching cars in India through the completely built up unit route by 2013 end. Meanwhile reports also suggest that Peugeot has attempted to utilize the resources built up by General Motors in India but its plans seems to have failed to materialize as GM India will not enter into alliance with it in the country.
Notably, Peugeot has lined up an entire fleet of its cars for India but following the unfavorable conditions prevailing, it has postponed its expansion plans in India but it will be pitching in some of its cars through the CBU route. As per reports, the car maker had initially planned to launch Peugeot 107 hatchback priced at Rs 6.5 lakh in addition to other cars ranging up to Rs 22 lakh and more but its plans got a sudden brake due to the crisis in its homeland.
