R C Bhargava, Maruti Suzuki chairman, stuck in a web of political conspiracies

R C Bhargava, current chairman of Maruti Suzuki commented on the strike at Manesar plant and said that this agitation might be a pre-planned move from some political parties who want a share in Maruti.

He also said that the strike is illegal, as it took place just one month before the union election without any prior notice or demands.

Declining to name any particular political party, he proclaimed this whole act as a plot to gain a foothold in Maruti.

The Gurgaon-Manesar belt being notoriously famous for its disturbed management-labor relations, also has survived some of the most intense labor troubles, which are generally blamed on CPI-affiliated All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC).

Suresh Gaur, Gurgaon District President of AITUC said that the union will take a stand for the issues of Maruti’s workers at Manesar plant. He declared that even though the workers of Maruti are independent, the union will try to benefit them and stand for them, as their belief is worker welfare, a thought disliked by the management.

Some prominent automobile companies like Maruti, Hero Honda and Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) have their production plants in the Gurgaon-Manesar belt, are on a constant search for some other locations for the expansion of their plants because of the labor troubles of the area.

In an act of making the workers see reason, he said that if the industry is not having apt working conditions, it will move to a new location but that will be difficult for the workers. He also said that such constant disturbances will have an adverse effect on future projects in the region.

Bhargava also said that the company has stopped its production of Maruti SX4 and Maruti Dzire sedans and Maruti Swift and Maruti A-Star hatchbacks till the strike blows itself out. He said that the company took this step to avoid confrontation.

About the strikers, Bhargava said that the company has a set policy of elections and follows a democratic pattern where any worker or striker can stand and ask for support.
