Re-Designing Cars Can Reduce Dependency On-Chip!!!
The shortage in the supply of semiconductor chips has highly affected the production of vehicles across the world. The car industry is no exception to this. According to Roland Berget, an analyst in the Munich-located consultancy firm, the problem will continue to the late months of 2022. To cope with the problem car manufacturers like Volkswagen and General Motors, can redesign their cars without using technically advanced components.

Moving ahead, Berger said, the production capacity of the carmakers will stay affected for a long time because the chip manufacturers are not working on improving the supply of semiconductor chips. In his report, Berger also urged the chip manufacturers to work hard and fight against the problem of ship shortage. Commenting on the existing situation the report says, “Most importantly, carmakers need to speed up the transition to centralized electronic architectures and thereby move to advanced and leading-edge nodes,”.
Due to the chip shortage, the auto manufacturers couldn't manufacturer vehicles equivalent to last year, when the whole world was going through the lockdown. After the decline in the supply of chips, car manufacturers had different opinions. Manufacturers like Volkswagen expected the situation to improve in the coming months. Whereas others are trying to find solutions to reduce the share of loss.
Suggesting ways to cope with the problem, the report recommends making a change in the central design of cars. The manufacturers should now use one onboard computing system to control the wide range of operations without using a chip. The report also reveals that switching to the new platform will increase the use of new chips which will help in increasing the production capacity of vehicles.
The cars manufactured today have a decentralized system that uses separate semiconductors to control the functions of different components.
