Renault Duster to get Nissan Sunny sourced 1.5L petrol engine
Renault Duster for India will be available in petrol option as well. As per the reports, Renault is planning to source an engine from Nissan Sunny and put it under the hood of the new SUV in India. Thinking of giving a 1.5L petrol engine to Duster could also be due to two reasons. One, it will keep petrol powered Renault Duster price lower and second, if there is a higher tax on diesel cars in India, there will be a rise in demand for petrol cars and still Duster petrol price will be in the affordable range. Besides, a petrol unit always adds performance to the car compared to a diesel engine. The Renault Duster petrol price could land between Rs 7.5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh. The Renault Duster launch is expected in June this year.

Putting Nissan Sunny sourced 1.5L petrol engine in Renault Duster will not be an uphill task and it could be done at the plant owned by Renault-Nissan. Since Nissan produces the 1.5L engine, there will not be any factor such as importing the engine or sourcing it from somewhere else. Besides, in a country obsessed with mileage, Renault will not launch Renault Duster with a fuel guzzling engine putting up only power and no mileage. Instead it will surely be power the Duster with the 1.5L engine that returns a 16.95 kmpl on Nissan Sunny.

The Duster will be available in four wheel version as well. As per an estimate and the information from the testing of the Renault Duster, it is expected that the 1.5L engine will return a decent 15 kmpl. The diesel engine which is the 1.5 DCi engine on other hand is expected to return around 20 kmpl. However, the worry wart for Renault Duster will be the Ford EcoSport that is expected to offer more mileage due to the EcoBoost engine under the hood.
