Renault Scala: Nissan Sunny based car coming this year

Renault India will be launching a car based on its India partner’s offering Nissan Sunny soon. The Nissan Sunny based Renault sedan will be named as Scala. Notably, Renault has recently launched Renault Pulse which is just a rebadged version of Nissan Micra hatchback. The Renault Scala will be the second car in this row. Just like Renault did with Pulse, it will do the same with Scala. Renault Scala will take everything from looks to the interiors and engine from the Nissan Sunny sedan. The Renault Scala price is also expected to be same as that of Nissan Sunny. Presently, Nissan Sunny price starts at Rs 5.8 lakh and goes up to Rs 10.28 lakh.

Re-badging the Nissan Sunny means the Renault will be putting in the same engine of the sedan in its new sedan Scala. Thus the 1.5 L, petrol and diesel engines will be put to use in the Scala sedan as well. However, Renault may drop the petrol model as it did with Renault Pulse. Notably, a close look at the product line up put up on the Renault website, the fifth model seems more like a sedan and now that Renault is bringing a Nissan Sunny like car, the rumor is set right.

Renault Scala will be positioned to rival Ford Fiesta, Honda City, Tata Manza, Toyota Etios and Hyundai Verna. Besides it will also be eating some of the customers of Nissan Sunny as well. Overall, Renault is expected to give some touches of its design here and there and will be producing the Scala with ease. As Nissan and Renault shares the assembly line at their plant at Oragadam, it will have no problem in producing the car and it will be like investing in one and getting two products out of it for the Renault-Nissan joint venture.
